Metronidazole In Pregnancy?

I’m only 7 weeks pregnant & I was diagonsed with Bacterial Vaginosis which can cause problems in pregnancy such as miscarriage and premature labour. The doctor gave me Metronidazole to treat it and said its important I get tested throughout my pregnancy to ensure it does not reoccur.

However I’ve just looked it up on the internet and it says Metronidazole should not be taken in the first trimester of pregnancy because of adverse effects on the fetus. Surely the doctor wouldn’t have given it to me if that was the case would he? & yes he was very aware I’m pregnant!

Has anyone got any advice on this one??? It would be really appreciated

Treating a vaginal yeast infection with Garlic?

Ever since I have joined the military 2 years ago, I have been suffering from reoccurring yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis. I have taken Diflucan (Fluconazole) and Metronidazole (flagyl) and every other medicine you can think of with no positive results. Anybody in the military knows that they don’t really try and get to the root of the problem, they will just give you the medicine and send you on your merry way. I read an article on using a clove of garlic and vaginally inserting it to cure yeast infections. Has anybody ever personally tried it? What are some other natural remedies that I can use to treat a yeast infection so that I won’t have to continually go back to medical?
I think what the problem stems from is the fact that when I work, I’m sweating and slaving for hours and all the moisture down there isn’t good. I only wear cotton underwear and I can change my underwear anywhere for 2-4 times a day because it’s so hot. I work on helicopters and so I don’t have the leisure of sitting all day in an air conditioned room.
Monika, I use to be in the medical field prior to joining the military and it is a fact that garlic is a somewhat natural antibiotic. Recall how Louis Pasteur used it in his laboratory studies when coming up with an effective way of killing of bacteria and certain fungi. Allicin, one main compound in garlic, effectively fights off infection. I just want to know if anybody has ever tried it and the results they’ve gotten back from it.
