Treating Bacterial Vaginosis

Oral metronidazole was not more effective for bacterial vaginosis when combined with clindamycin or a probiotic than when used with a placebo, based on data from 450 women, Dr. Catriona Bradshaw says.

Metronidazole In Pregnancy?

I’m only 7 weeks pregnant & I was diagonsed with Bacterial Vaginosis which can cause problems in pregnancy such as miscarriage and premature labour. The doctor gave me Metronidazole to treat it and said its important I get tested throughout my pregnancy to ensure it does not reoccur.

However I’ve just looked it up on the internet and it says Metronidazole should not be taken in the first trimester of pregnancy because of adverse effects on the fetus. Surely the doctor wouldn’t have given it to me if that was the case would he? & yes he was very aware I’m pregnant!

Has anyone got any advice on this one??? It would be really appreciated
